Workshops

In partnership with Write On Comedy here is a selection of workshops which can be delivered to either adults or children. These are unique to our offering and aim to boost literacy and mental wellbeing.  

Comedy Writing

A full day or three week course dedicated to writing for comedy purposes. This workshop explores the history of comedy, with viewing of some classic comedy sketches and shows. Clips are adapted to suit the ages although it is not recommended for under 14s. Students will have a good at writing their own comedy pieces and unpick what really makes us laugh. 

Comedy and Mental Health

The Links between Comedy and Mental Health 

A Comedy of Madness includes clips and frank conversation – both a celebration of comedy and promoting mental health awareness. We presents a talk about how mental health issues and comedy have been closely linked.

Politics and Comedy 

How Comedy presents politics through the medium of Sit Coms.

A one hour talk and discussion about the influence comedy has had on political voting, through looking at clips from Sit Coms such as; Steptoe and Son, Yes Minister and....

Visual Comedy for Literacy

Using visual comedy clips and sketches this workshop allows pupils to develop their literacy skills through viewing, role-play and writing their interpretations. 

Women in Comedy 

Looking at the past 100 years plus of funny women, from how the women of Music Hall were part of the Suffrage movement, to the early female executives in Hollywood's silent era, and to how women have developed on Television and Film to transform the landscape of the comedy world for women.
